Do you have a fear of the dentist or suffer from an anxiety condition? Sleep dentistry could provide you with the relief you need to receive the dental care you deserve.

Fear of the dentist

At Marriott and Hand, we understand that for some patients, the thought of visiting the dentist can be filled with fear or anxiety. It has always been our aim to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for all of our patients. In addition to this, our whole team is dedicated to patient care. We will always provide you with thorough explanations of each and every treatment and give you the opportunity to talk with us about any concerns or questions you may have.

While this is set in place for your comfort, we understand that for some patients, dental fear and anxiety is still a struggle.  This fear shouldn’t have to stop you from receiving vitally important dental care, which is why we offer our patients sleep dentistry.

So, what is sleep dentistry?

Sleep dentistry, also known as sedation dentistry or twilight dentistry, encompasses a range of options which relax your nerves during your dental appointment. At Marriot and Hand, we offer our patients Penthrox, an inhalant which calms your nerves and the option for general anaesthetic to completely sedate you throughout your treatment. The options give all patients the opportunity to receive dental care without the fear of being fully conscious while we work.

Sometimes other patients are interested in using sedation dentistry treatments to combine multiple treatments into one. This helps patients who are busy with other commitments and are unable to visit the practice on multiple occasions to treat multiple issues.

As close to pain-free dentistry  as you can get

One of the main benefits of sedation dentistry is that it removes the pain often associated with dental work – because you are essentially asleep. In a similar manner to operations, patients will not feel any pain during their treatment while they are under general anaesthetic. However, there may still be discomfort after the procedure depending on what treatment was required and your individual scenario. Your dentist will prepare you for any downtime or post-treatment care necessary for your situation.
