Reclaim the full function of your smile; At Marriott and Hand in Essendon we offer dental implants with results that speak for themselves

Whether you have suffered the loss of one tooth, two or three or perhaps them all, dental implants are something you may want to consider. Dental implants can assist in improving the function of your teeth, and ultimately your smile. We understand that nothing beats the feeling of your own teeth, however sometimes it is not possible for us to keep all of our natural teeth whether this is due to trauma, infection or illness.

Why replace a missing tooth with an implant?

Once a tooth has been lost a variety of issues can arise due to the imbalance it causes within the mouth. Often teeth beside the gap will begin to move across to naturally fill the gap, and this can lead to the development of more gaps. Even the simplest tasks such as cleaning teeth can become an issue; teeth surrounding the troubled area can become prone to decay as small gaps can trap food and bacteria leading to further dental health issues.

Issues with the jaw can also become apparent due to the loss of a tooth as teeth are responsible for shaping the jaw bone, and with teeth missing the jaw can begin to narrow.

Dental implants are quickly becoming a common solution to help replace a patient’s missing tooth or teeth. Once implants have been inserted and the healing process is completed a dental crown or bridge is then placed over the implant to complete the process.

What to expect when getting dental implants

Dental implants are not suitable for everybody; however with a visit to our practice, one of our highly experienced dentists will be able to asses if this is the correct treatment for you .The procedure usually takes three appointments to complete. Your first appointment is treated as a consultation where one of our highly qualified dentists will talk you through the treatment and educate you on what to expect. The second appointment will be when one of our dentists will surgically insert the dental implant. The dental implants we use are biocompatible, meaning there is minimal risk of the body rejecting the implant. The third and final appointment usually takes place three to six months following the placement of the implant, after the jaw has had time to fully heal around it. This is when the permanent crown or bridge will be attached to the implant.

Dental implants offer a range of benefits

Dental implants are our preferred treatment option for tooth replacement due to the range of benefits they offer. These include:

  • Improved appearance – They look and feel like your own teeth, and because they are designed to fuse to the jaw bone with the correct treatment they can last up to 10 years before requiring replacement.
  • Make eating easier – Unlike dentures, implants allow you to eat whatever you like.
  • Improved oral health – Implants provide structural support to the rest of the mouth and restore chewing function.
  • Improved comfort – Implants become part of the mouth eliminating the discomfort of removable dentures.
